Our History

Gamma-Civic Ltd started off as a company which was controlled and managed by its founders nearly 30 years ago. The story of the Company dates as far back as the 1960s with its incorporation under the name of Randabel and Sons Ltd.


4 July 1961: Randabel and Sons Ltd is incorporated and is initially engaged in asphalt and road works.

28 August 1987: The Ah Teck family, acquired Randabel and Sons Ltd and the name of the Company is changed to Civic Ltd. The Company started the manufacture and trade of building materials.

28 March 1994: Civic Ltd is renamed Gamma-Civic Ltd, and the Company becomes vertically integrated, with a spectrum of business activities encompassing building materials, building and civil works, contracting, cement trade, property development and lottery. This growth has also seen Gamma-Civic Ltd form strategic alliances and partnerships with world-class leading companies.

5 February 1999

Hilton International and Gamma, through its associate Morning Light Co Ltd, entered into partnership for the construction of a first class Hotel resort, which would be managed by Hilton International under the name Hilton Resort & Spa.

Holcim Ltd and Gamma entered into a joint venture relationship to manage and operate a cement company, under the name Holcim (Mauritius) Ltd.

Gamma as the major shareholder of Lottotech Ltd entered into agreement with GTECH (now operating under the name IGT) as its exclusive technology partner for the implementation and operation of the Mauritius National Lottery for the Government of Mauritius.

23 June 2011

Gamma Civic Ltd and Societe Ingenerie and Participations Financieres (IPF), a wholly owned subsidiary of the Colas Group, entered into a joint venture relating to the joint management of Gamma Materials Ltd.

30 September 2015

Holcim (Mauritius) Ltd was renamed Kolos Cement Ltd when Gamma acquired the direct and indirect shareholding of Holcim International in Holcim (Mauritius) Ltd.
